With only a couple of months away from the 2024 MLB Draft happening in  Arlington, Texas, and the Washington Nationals having the 10th pick in the 1st round, I thought that I would take a look at the prospect that Baseball America projects the Nationals to take in their latest Mock Draft.

Baseball America is projecting that the Nationals will take RHP Trey Yesavage out of East Carolina University. Here is some background on the right-handed pitcher.

RHP Trey Yesavage

  • Age: 20
  • Bats/Throws: R/R
  • Height: 6’4
  • University: East Carolina University

Trey Yesavage appeared in 16 games with 14 starts and had a  7-1 record with a 2.61 earned run average and 105 strikeouts against 23 walks in 76.0 innings of work in 2023 while pitching with East Carolina University.  Yesavage finished among the national leaders in WHIP (12th/1.00), strikeouts per nine innings (17th/12.43), hits allowed per nine innings (17th/6.28), and ERA (22nd).

According to his scouting report from MLB: “Yesavage features four solid or better pitches, highlighted by a mid-80s slider/cutter with more depth than lateral movement. His fastball parks at 93-95 mph and peaks at 98, overcoming a lack of life with plenty of carry from a high arm slot. He also has a low-80s spike curveball and a splitter with similar velocity, and both miss bats as well.”
