Daniel Murphy, Former New York Mets and Washington Nationals retiring from Baseball

According to SNY, former Washington Nationals and New York Met player Daniel Murphy is retiring from Major League Baseball after 12 years of playing.

Murphy played for the Washington Nationals for three seasons from 2016 - 2018. During his three seasons with the Washington Nationals, Murphy played 342 games, had 1,255 at-bats with 54 Homeruns, 226 RBI's and a batting average of .329.

Murphy would make All-Star teams with the Nationals in 2016 and 2017. He finished as the runner up to Kris Bryant in National League MVP voting in 2016.

For most of his career, Murphy was a below-average defender, but at his peak, his bat made him worth having in the lineup every night. Between 2014 and 2017, Murphy was one of the best pure hitters in the sport, slashing .209/.357/.495.

Before playing for the Washington Nationals, Murphy was part of the New York Mets team who reached the World Series in 2015.
