Fredericksburg - VA. The Fredericksburg Nationals took a 9-4 loss against the Lynchburg Hillcats. With the loss, Fredericksburg is now 27-18, and Lynchburg is 24-21.

The Hillcats kicked off the game with a big opening top of the first. As Fredericksburg starter Travis Steele couldn’t complete the inning, the Hillcats put together five straight hits, all with two outs, to score four times.

With the help from Marcus Brown and Armando Cruz who each picked up RBIs, cutting the early 4-0 deficit in half to make it 4-2.

The Fredericksburg Nationals pulled within one in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a successful double-steal and an errant throw to third base that scored Marcus Brown, making it 5-4.

The Fredericksburg Nationals had ample opportunities to jump in front of the Hillcats but could not capitalize as Lynchburg held on to a 5-4 lead into the top of the ninth inning. An RBI single and a sac fly helped extend the Hillcat edge to 7-4 before Angel Genao made it 9-4 with a two-run homer.

That was the final score, with RHP Yorman Gomez (5-1) earning the win and RHP Travis Sthele (1-4) getting the loss for the Fredericksburg Nationals.

Next, the Fredericksburg Nationals will travel to Kinston, NC, next week to begin a six-game series against the Down East Wood Ducks. They have a day off tomorrow.
