Fredericksburg Nationals starting pitcher RHP Travis Sykora has been named the Carolina League's Pitcher of the Week for his dominant performance from July 28th to August 4th.
Sykora, a third-round draft pick by the Nationals in 2023, put on a masterclass against the Lynchburg Hillcats, pitching five no-hit innings. He walked just one batter and struck out eight on his way to securing his second professional win.
This stellar performance is just the latest chapter in Sykora's impressive season. Since joining the FredNats in May, he's quickly established himself as one of the Carolina League's top pitchers. Here's a look at his recent dominance:
- Last Five Starts:
- Allowed just four earned runs across 22 innings (1.64 ERA)
- Opponents hit a measly .110 (8-for-73) against him
- Recorded 39 strikeouts with only nine walks
- Didn't allow a single home run
Sykora's dominance extends beyond the Carolina League. He currently ranks among the best in all of Minor League Baseball in several key categories:
- Tied for 8th: Strikeouts per nine innings (13.50)
- Tied for 11th: Hits allowed per nine innings (5.18)
- Tied for 11th: Opponent batting average (.165)
With this recent recognition and his consistent performance, Sykora is proving to be a valuable asset to the Nationals' development pipeline. He and the FredNats kick off a 12-game homestand this week, starting with a six-game series against the Carolina Mudcats.
