Game Story Line

The Washington Nationals will kick off the 2024 season and Spring Training as they face their fellow Spring Training complex partners: the Houston Astros.

Game Highlights

  • Tonight, the Washington Nationals will have their first of 31 exhibition games over the next month against their spring training complex partners: the Houston Astros at the newly renamed CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches. Throwing out the first pitch for the game is Houston-born rapper and CACTI hard seltzer founder Travis Scott.

  • We might not see a lot of regulars in today’s Nationals game according to media reports. Manager Dave Martinez didn’t divulge any details about his starting lineup in advance, other than saying CJ Abrams will be leading off and that LHP Partick Corbin will be on the bump for the opening pitch.

  • Additionally, according to reports, Jackson Rutledge, Joan Adon, DJ Herz, Jordan Weems, Richard Bleier, and Robert Gsellman—are all scheduled to throw this evening. Corbin, Rutledge, and Adon will throw around 35 pitches each.

  • During the game, we should at least see the top Washington Nationals prospects for the first time wearing a Washington Nationals jersey.

  • Up and coming prospects Dylan Crews, (The Nats Report Prospect Ranking #2) James Wood, (The Nats Report Prospect Ranking #1 ) Robert Hassell III (The Nats Report Prospect Ranking #11), Brady House (The Nats Report Prospect Ranking #4 ) Darren Baker (The Nats Report Prospect Ranking # 29) will each get a little taste of Major League Baseball Spring Training as call-ups from minor league camp.

  • Quotable:

    • “For me, it’s all about timing right now… The pitchers are going to be a little ahead of hitters for a lot of this. So just get yourself ready to hit, and get ready to hit the fastball. We were really good at it last year. I think we’re going to be good at it again this year.” - Manager Dave Martinez

    • “They’re going to get plenty of playing time, especially early… But we’ve got to get ready for Opening Day. Our (major league) guys are going to get the at-bats they need. -Manager Dave Martinez

On the bump for the Nationals: LHP Patrick Corbin

LHP Patrick Corbin will be making his first start of the 2024 season and Spring Training.
