Washington Nationals Story Line: After a nine game road trip to the West Coast, the Washington Nationals return to Nationals Park for a three game series against the New York Mets
Tuesday night, the Washington Nationals will kick off a six-game homestand. The homestand will feature two different Major League Baseball teams: the New York Mets and the Houston Astros, at the end of the week.

Moving on Up: Tuesday afternoon, the Washington Nationals announced that they had selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. and optioned right-hand pitcher Andres Machado to Triple-A Rochester. (Read more here)
A veteran of seven Major League seasons, Edwards Jr. has pitched to a 3.77 ERA and 12.0 strikeouts per 9.0 innings in 206 Major League outings. Since 2015, he has ranked third among relievers with a .166 opponents batting average. Only Josh Hader (.138) and Craig Kimbrel (.164) have held opponents to a lower average.
Edwards Jr., 30, joins the Nationals after going 1–0 with three saves and 0.63 ERA (1 ER/14.1 1 IP) in 13 games for Triple-A Rochester. He struck out 17 batters, walked four, and held opposing batters to a .068 average.
Don't touch the Bell because it is hot. First baseman Josh Bell is really hot of late. Bell is 18-for-51 with five doubles, two homers, nine RBIs, nine walks, and 10 runs scored over the past 14 games. Bell ranks two in the NL OBP leaders with a .442 behind Manny Machado of San Deigo. Bell has also reached base safely in 26 of 29 games this season.
Juan Walks the Line: Juan Soto leads Major League Baseball with a total of 24 walks and is tied for fourth in the NL in runs scored (21), tied for ninth in multi-hit games (9), and tied for ninth in home runs (6).
The Nationals' Have the Power. As a team, the Washington Nationals' hitters have recorded 256 hits this season which is the second-most in all of Major League Baseball, and the Nationals are tied for third in the National League for doubles with 51 and are tied for third in batting average with .254
The Power of the Infield. The Nationals infield has been extremely hot over the past few games. Alcides Escobar is 11-for-25, Maikel Franco is 18-for-60, and Cesar Hernandez has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games and going 21-for-60. Not bad for the Nationals infield.
Patrick Corbin vs. New York Mets: LHP Patrick Corbin faces the New York Mets for the second time this season and 22nd during his career. The lefthander has pitched a 3.71 ERA with seven earned runs over 17 innings pitched. Corbin has 15 strikeouts in his last three starts against the Mets, which dates back to June of 2021. In Corbin's last start, he pitched an eight-inning complete game against the Colorado Rockies.
However, he still lost after allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts. Corbin has yet to win a game this season, and his ERA is at a 7.16. Corbin has yet to win a game this season, and his ERA is at a 7.16.
