Sound the Horn, Welcome to the Show

Today, the Washington Nationals selected outfielder Travis Blankenhorn and recalled Joan Adon to Triple-A Rochester.

Blankenhorn led the Nationals organization and ranked fourth in Minor League Baseball with 24 home runs. HAROLD the Hitter

Harold Ramírez is on a hot streak, tallying hits in five consecutive games, including three multi-hit performances. Since joining the Nationals in June, he has posted a .333 batting average with impressive power and RBI numbers. Ramírez has been particularly effective against left-handed pitching, collecting four hits, including a home run and double, with six RBI in his last nine at-bats.

You are the JUAN

Juan Yepez has been an offensive sparkplug for the Nationals since his arrival. He's racked up hits in 18 of his 20 games, including a franchise-record 15-game hitting streak to start his Nationals career. Yepez's consistent production, highlighted by nine multi-hit performances, has been crucial to the team's success.

YOUNG at heart

Jacob Young is on a tear, recording multiple hits in three of his last four games. During this hot streak, he's slashing .353 with extra-base hits, runs, RBIs, and stolen bases. His combination of speed and power makes him a rare talent, evidenced by his placement alongside Shohei Ohtani and Elly De La Cruz in the exclusive .250 AVG, 50 runs, 25 steals club. Beyond his offensive prowess, Young has solidified himself as a Gold Glove-caliber center fielder, leading all MLB center fielders in outs above average and runs prevented.

Now pitching for the Washington Nationals: LHP Patrick Corbin.

LHP Patrick Corbin will pitch tonight for the Washington Nationals against his former team. Corbin is seeking his 100th career win and third win of the 2024 season.

Patrick Corbin delivered a quality start against the Padres, pitching seven innings while striking out seven. However, he was outdueled by the opposing pitcher in the 3-0 loss. Corbin faces a familiar foe in the Diamondbacks, against whom he holds a 0-3 record with a high ERA of 8.87.

The D-backs

Ryne Nelson is set to make his 18th start of the season for the Diamondbacks, placing him second on the team behind Brandon Pfaadt. This will also be his 9th home start of the year.

Nelson has been a key contributor to the team’s recent success, as the D-backs have gone 6-1 in his last seven starts and 4-0 in his last four outings. Over his past seven starts, he's compiled a 4-1 record with a 3.86 ERA, striking out 34 batters while walking just 6. His last four starts have been even more impressive, with a 2-0 record, 3.20 ERA, and a WHIP of 0.99.

Nelson has consistently provided quality innings, pitching at least five innings in seven of his last eight games (including one relief appearance) and allowing three or fewer runs in six. In his previous start against the Royals, he pitched six innings, giving up four runs in a game the D-backs ultimately won 8-6.

Nelson has historically fared well against the Nationals, going 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in 2 career starts. His most recent outing against Washington was a victory on June 20th, during which he pitched seven shutout innings.
