Game Recap: Nationals Play small ball to get their first Curly W of the 2022 Regular Season.

The Washington Nationals were able to string together a couple of hits to generate offense to get the offense rolling to beat the New York Mets 4-2

After a couple of lopsided losses against the New York Mets, the Washington Nationals looked good today; and got their first Curly W of the 2022 regular season.

The Nationals got off to a good start against the New York Mets, starting when DH Nelson Cruz hit a towering home run in the bottom of the first. It took some time for the Nationals to finally generate some offense which came in the bottom of the eighth when the team played some small ball to take the lead 4-2. when eight nationals bated and three scored. Thanks to a safety squeeze bunt by Lucius Fox to give the Nationals the go-ahead run, Nelson Cruz got an RBI single to drive in two runs to give the Nats the win. Not a bad way to end not-so-good opening three games against the Mets during the weekend.

Erick Fedde looked good in his first start of the 2022 season except for the top of the fourth when he gave up a home run to Francisco Lindor, a double to Eduardo Escobar, and an RBI single to Mark Canha, giving the Mets all the offense for the afternoon, and the Nationals avoided a sweep to kick off the 2022 regular season.

Fedde's final line: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 Ks, 1 HR, 87 P, 54 S

The Washington Nationals bullpen held the New York Mets offense giving up no runs for the rest of the game, thanks to Steve Cishek, Sean Doolittle, Kyle Finnegan, and Tanner Rainey to close it out.

The Nationals will now travel down to Atlanta to face the World Series Champs. There are now some questions about who will be the starter for the game, as, before the game, the Nationals announced that Anibal Sanchez has some neck stiffness and will not be able to start tomorrow's game in Atlanta. Paolo Espino worked on stretching out during spring training, so he's a candidate to make a spot start Monday if Sanchez is unavailable.

The Nationals' defense also looked great once again to keep the score close so that the Nationals could come back and win. Lucius Fox had an impressive day at shortstop as he robbed Pete Alonso of a single, which could have changed the course of the game early.
