"Good group of young guys..." C Keibert Ruiz said to Dan Kolo on MASN after the Nationals win their third game in a row. Six wins out of the last eight is not a bad stretch of baseball and those wins came against the first-place New York Mets in the NL East and now, the first place in the NL Central St. Louis Cardinals.
Today, Aníbal Sánchez matched the franchise record for most consecutive starts of allowing three hits or less with four which was shared via the Nationals after he left the game in the fifth. Aníbal Sánchez went 5 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts, 81 pitches (52 strikes).
The Cardinals have had the best record in Major league baseball since August, so this win is a nice building block for this young team. The starting pitching has gotten five solid wins from a group that was struggling to say the least earlier this season. It now seems that the pitching, hitting, and infield depth is developing nicely and it's going to be a fun feeling heading to the end of 2022.
Hey, Nationals baseball is at least fun to watch, a nice change from earlier this season even if there will be no playoff baseball.
