The Washington Nationals have now lost five in a row and got swept by the visiting San Francisco Giants. The game was somewhat close heading into the top of the ninth, however, the Giants were able to score six runs, and by the time the Nationals got the final out at the top of the ninth, all hope was lost.

The afternoon got off to a rocky start for the team as before the first pitch was even thrown starting third baseman Lucius Fox, threw up to the right off the pitcher's mound and left the game. Right after things got underway for the second time, the Giants jumped to an early lead when Joc Pederson hit a massive home run and the Giants didn't look back.

After Fox vomited on the field and left the game in the top of the first inning Maikel Franco, who was starting at first with Josh Bell not a part of the lineup (right hamstring tweak), shifted back to third base, where Fox was, and Riley Adams came out to play first base for the whole game. Adams went 0-3 with three strikeouts.

The Nationals were able to get within one when Yadiel Hernandez hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third, however, that didn't last too long. Two innings later the Giants added a run and they were off to the races. In the top of the ninth, the Nationals gave up six runs on five hits, two hit by a pitch, and two walks.

Joan Adon whose record is now 1-3 went four innings, gave up five runs on six hits, walked one, and had only three strikeouts. He did have back-to-back 1, 2, 3, innings early in the game in the third and fourth innings, however, the bullpen gave up seven runs on nine hits.

In his after the game press conference, Adon said: "I think overall things went well for me because I was really, really focused out there... I was just a lot more confident out there.”

Juan Soto and the Nationals Offense Still Struggling

Juan Soto went 0-4 in the afternoon with three grounders and one line drive that was hit hard to Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford. Soto is 4-27 since his April 12th home run against the #Pirates. His batting average has taken a dive and now is at .242 for the season. All weekend long, Soto only had two hits which came on Friday night.

Yadiel Hernandez was the only Washington player to make things happen, as he batted in all three of the Washington Nationals' runs with a single and a two-run home run. Keibert Ruiz continues to impress as he went 2-4 with a single and a double. The Nationals went 2-8 with runners in scoring position this afternoon and left five players on base.

Nationals are now 6-12 as the Miami Marlins come into town for a mid-week series.
