Today, the Milwaukee Brewers announced their Minor League player development and training staff for the 2021 season. In that announcement, the Brewers announced that Sara Goodrum will become the organization's new coordinator making her the first woman in baseball history to serve in the role. Her official title will be Coordinator - Hitting Development Initiatives.
Previously, Goodrum played Division I college softball at Oregon before getting a Master's degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Utah. She had worked in the Brewers' sports science lab for going on four years.
"We've seen it work for almost four years with Sara in our organization working very closely with our players and our coaches," David Stearns, Brewers president of baseball operations, told MLB.com. "I think we've seen that because of her talent and her skill set, she is trusted and respected."
Women have started to achieve more prominent positions in Major League Baseball organizations. Late last year, the Miami Marlins hired the first GM Kim Ng.
We will update the story as more information becomes available.
