Washington D.C. - Last night, the Washington Nationals were defeated by the San Diego Padres 12-3.
The Nationals have a 47-55 record for the season and are 23-26 at Nationals Park. The Nationals are also 8-11 during July.
LHP Mitchell Parker, who started for the Nationals tonight on the mound, seemed to struggle a bit. He only went 3.0 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits. Parker threw 77 pitches, 49 of which were strikes. Parker got the loss and now has a 5-6 record with a 4.34 ERA.
With San Diego's win last night, this will be San Diego's first time winning multiple series against the Nationals in a single season since 2008 (they went 5-1 vs. WSH in '08).
Interesting note: entering last night's game, Lane Thomas has reached base safely in 20 straight games, posting a .360 on-base percentage (21 H, 3 HBP, 8 BB) during the streak. This is the longest streak by a Nationals player this season and the second-longest streak of his career behind his 26-game streak in 2023. Lane Thomas finished the night 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, and Luis GarcÃa Jr. went 2-for-4 and got his first triple of the season. Garica Jr. is the fourth Nationals player to hit a triple this year. Lastly, GarcÃa Jr. is hitting .396 (19-for-48) with eight extra-base hits and nine RBI over his last 13 games.
Juan Yepez extended his hitting streak to 15 due to his two-run-homerun that he hit in the bottom of the first to give the Nationals a quick 3-0 lead. Yepez has a 15-game hitting streak and is batting .389 (21-for-54). Yepez also has ten extra-base hits among his 21 hits. Yepez finished the night 1-for-4.
The Nationals will finish their three-game series against the Padres this afternoon; the first pitch will be at 12:15 p.m. EDT.
