Good Morning Washington Nationals Fan,
Here are the latest headlines and analyses around the Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball for today, June 27, 2023. My name is Haden Raymer and this is your morning briefing. Today’s top story is the Nationals selecting the contract of Amos Willingham to join the bullpen.

Leading today’s Morning Briefing: Amos Willingham gets the call to the majors
Reliever Amos Willingham had his contract selected yesterday. Willingham is an unranked prospect and was selected in the 17th round of the 2019 draft. In the corresponding move, Paolo Espino was optioned to Triple-A.
Espino was the odd man out, with Thad Ward and Cory Abbott already filling that long-reliever role. Willingham likely will be used in a similar way to Jordan Weems, usually only going an inning, but can go multiple if needed.
Nationals drop game one to Seattle Mariners
Trevor Williams only went four innings and struck out four. He also got charged with the first disengagement violation of the Nationals season. Cory Abbott was your losing pitcher, giving up five earned runs over three and a third.
In the 8-4 loss, Lane Thomas and Dom Smith both hit solo shots. Thomas also doubled, knocking in a run. Luis García had two hits. CJ Abrams got another hit, making it five over his past four games.
Your Nats Report Player of the Game is Lane Thomas. The next game is tonight at 9:40 p.m. on MASN2.
Futures Game rosters announced
The Futures Game is essentially the All-Star game but for each team’s top prospect. Last year, Darren Baker and reliever Jose A. Ferrer were the representatives.
This year the Nationals have top-five prospect James Wood and top-100 prospect Brady House as your representatives.
SEA the future.

While it is not meaningful baseball, it is fun to see how players react to facing more top prospects, and it will be nice to see James Wood and Brady House be in the same lineup.
