Leading today’s Morning Briefing: Jose A. Ferrer poised to make big league debut

Héctor Gómez reported yesterday that left-handed reliever Jose A. Ferrer would be called up from Triple-A.

Ferrer has struggled in Triple-A this season, but he’s looked better in June. For how good his stuff is, he struggled striking out hitters and walked too many batters.

No corresponding move has been reported yet, but Cory Abbott is the one that makes sense. Abbott has appeared in only five games since being called up, and Ferrer comes with more versatility in roles.

Nationals begin road series against Phillies

The Nationals will begin a three game set in Philadelphia tonight. The Nationals have not released their starters for the series, but Josiah Gray is likely your guy tonight. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. on MASN.

The Rochester Red Wings lost 12-3 to the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. Jake Alu went 3-4 with a home run after going 4-5 yesterday. Matt Adams went 2-4 and Blake Rutherford recorded a hit.

The Harrisburg Senators won 6-5. Robert Hassell III stole a base. Both Trey Lipscomb and James Wood homered. Lipscomb has looked more and more like a guy we will see in the big leagues in 2024.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks won 4-1. Lucius Fox got a hit in his rehab assignment. Brady House hit a home run and stole a base. Jeremy De La Rosa went 2-4 with a stolen base.

The FredNats went 2-0. Armando Cruz did the impossible and hit a home run. Erik Tolman threw four innings and struck out two.
