Leading today’s Morning Briefing: Nationals begin series against Boston

The Nationals are set to take on the Boston Red Sox for a three game set. Tonight Josiah Gray will take on RHP Nick Pivetta at 7:05 p.m. Pivetta has been used as a swingman this year, appearing in 28 games and starting in 10, while having a 4.28 ERA.

Tomorrow at 7:05 p.m., MacKenzie Gore will face off against LHP James Paxton. Paxton has had a tough time staying on the mound the past few years, but this he’s been mostly healthy, posting a 3.36 ERA in 15 starts.

Then on Thursday at 4:05 p.m., Patrick Corbin will take on LHP Chris Sale. If this was 2019 this would be a must-see matchup, but with Corbin’s regression since then and Sale’s constant injuries, neither look like the pitcher they were back then.
