Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Today, the Washington Nationals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5. The Nationals are now 44-52 as they enter their final game of the first half of this season. Additionally, they are 24-28 on the road and 5-8 in July.
The Nationals will finish their road trip and the first half of the 2024 season tomorrow, looking to sweep the Brewers.
This afternoon, the Nationals sent LHP Mitchell Parker to the mound to face the Brewers. Parker went 0.2 innings, giving up five runs on three hits and struck out two. He threw 46 pitches, with 28 of them being strikes. Parker only faced seven batters before being pulled in the bottom of the first.
Thanks to the Nationals bullpen, which included RHP Jordan Weems, RHP Jacob Barnes, RHP Dylan Floro, and RHP Derek Law, locked things down as they delivered 8.1 shout-out innings so that the Nationa’s offense could return and win the game. RHP Kyle Finnegan secured his 25th save for the Nationals this afternoon. RHP Derek Law got the win for the team and now has a 5-2 record and now has a 3.18 ERA.
The Nationals secured their 24 comeback to win this afternoon in defeating the Brewers, thanks to a two-run home run in the top of the ninth by shortstop CJ Abrams. Abrams went 1-5, with 2 RBI and a home run.
Abrams now has a batting average of .269, with 15 homeruns and 48 RBIs as the team enters the final game of the first half of the season.
Lane Thomas again performed well as he went 2-5 this afternoon, and Luis García Jr. hit his 11th home run of the season and his second pitch hit homerun. García Jr. finished the day 2-2 with a home run, RBI and two runs scored.
Lastly, Juan Yepez also contributed to the win for the Nationals by going 2-4. Yepez has now hit safely in 9 straight games, a new Nationals record for a player to start his time with the club (2005-pres.).
James Wood went 1-4 this afternoon. Wood has reached base safely in 12 13 games since being called on July 1 and has 12 hits, six walks, and one hit by a pitch in 52 plate appearances (.346 OBP).
The Nationals finished the game going 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left six on base this afternoon.

Tomorrow’s Pitching Matchup
Tomorrow, the Nationals will send RHP Jake Irvin to the mound with a record of 7-7 and an ERA of 3.13 to finish the season's first half. This will be Jake Irvin's 13th road start, the most in Major League Baseball, and he has a 5-2 with a 2.92 ERA.
RHP Colin Rea will be tomorrow's probable starter for the Brewers. Rae has an 8-3 record with a 3.81 ERA. Rea last faced Washington on June 18, 2016, as a member of the Padres.
