Washington D.C. - The Washington Nationals delivered an offensive performance, overcoming a four-run deficit to defeat the San Francisco Giants 11-5.
Last night, the Washington Nationals sent LHP MacKenzie Gore to the mound searching for his seventh win. Additionally, he has been exceptional at limiting home runs, tying for eighth in the league with just 0.73 home runs allowed per nine innings. James Wood was the standout star of the night. The young outfielder showcased his impressive talent with a 2-for-3 performance, including a triple, a home run, two RBI, a walk, four runs scored, and two stolen bases. His on-base streak now extends to an impressive 11 games. During the streak, he's hitting .385 (15-for-39) with two doubles, three triples, a home run, Il RBI, ten walks, three stolen bases, and ten runs scored. Last night was also his first career game with multiple stolen bases.
CJ Abrams provided crucial firepower with a three-run home run in the second inning off Hayden Birdsong, with two runners on and one out. This blast propelled the Nationals to take the lead. Juan Yepez, Alex Call, and Ildemaro Vargas also contributed significantly to the offensive onslaught with multiple hits apiece. CJ Abrams is now one homer shy of his career mark 18 in 2023, and Abrams ended the night 2-for-5.
Keibert Ruiz added to the scoring with a solo home run in the third inning off Birdsong. Ruiz ended the game going 3-for-5 with a double and that solo home run. Ruiz is now hitting .400 (8-for-20) with two doubles, a home run, two RBI, a walk, and five runs scored over his last five games.
