Once again the New York Mets are making offseason moves, and headlines. For the second year in a row, brand new Owner Steve Cohen is putting where his money where his mouth and making serious moves during the offseason. After signing former Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer, Cohen took to his own Twitter account and announced that the New York Mets are hiring Buck Showalter as their newest manager.

Details of the contract have yet to be relieved. Showalter replaces Luis Rojas, the first-time manager who left the Mets after just two seasons and now is a coach with the Yankees.

Showalter managed four teams since 1992: the Yankees (1992-95), Diamondbacks (1998-2000), Rangers (2003-06) and Orioles (2010-18), posting a 1,551-1,517 record. He neatly fits the bill in New York, having managed under the bright lights with the Yankees, but with experience building up a team, as he did in Arizona with the expansion Diamondbacks.

With the Yankees, Showalter ended a 14-year playoff drought. With the Orioles, he ended a 15-year drought. With the Diamondbacks, he led them to the playoffs in just their second season.

Buck Showalter will be the fifth New York Mets manager who also managed the New York Yankees. Along with Yogi Berra, Dallas Green, Casey Stengel and Joe Torre.

The Mets have gone five years without reaching the postseason, the third-longest drought in the National League, let's see with the addition of Scherzer and now Showalter, the New York Mets can finally make the postseason, a former New York Mets coach believes that this move has put them over the hump.
