Even though it's been a rough year for the Washington Nationals, RHP Aníbal Sánchez has been playing extremely well and maybe well enough for another contract with the Washington Nationals next year. Well, see.
Today, Aníbal Sánchez got the start for the Nationals against the Miami Marlins. Entering today's game and over his last six starts, Aníbal Sánchez is 2-1 with a 1.53 ERA (5 ER/29.1 IP), 16 strikeouts, and a .144 opponents' batting average.
In today's game, Aníbal Sánchez put up another good performance pitching five innings and only giving up two hits, zero runs, striking out four, and walking only two.
With today's game and now over his last seven starts, he has a 1.31 ERA; during three of those starts, he has given up zero runs, and for the remaining three starts, he only gave up one run.
Even though this sample size is really small, it might be a great idea for the Nationals to bring him back next season to provide some Veteran leadership in the clubhouse for the young starting pitching rotation and a young ball team.
