Here is what happened yesterday with all the Washington Nationals farm teams.
Fredericksburg Nationals: T.J. White Homers Twice in Second Straight FredNat Win
Before the skies opened and postponed the second game of the doubleheader to Thursday, the FredNats and Hillcats got the first game in with the FredNats taking a 7-5 win. T.J. White hit two home runs and drove in four runs, and the FredNats held the Hillcats to four hits on the mound.
After Lynchburg's Jake Fox hit a solo home run on the second pitch of the game, the FredNats scored two in the bottom of 1st to take a lead they would never relinquish. With runners on the corners, Jeremy De La Rosa stole second, and Viandel Peña scored from third when the throw went to second base. Leandro Emiliani then drove in De La Rosa with a single to make it 2-1.
White blasted his fourth homer of the year to right field in the 2nd to score Geraldi Diaz and make it a 4-1 ballgame. Lynchburg answered back with two runs in the 3rd on a double from Jorge Burgos to make it 4-3, and the Hillcats tried to tie the game on a wild pitch in that same inning, but Dayan Frias was thrown out at home by the catcher Diaz to the pitcher Mason Denaburg covering to preserve the lead for the FredNats.
Sammy Infante scored the 5th run for the FredNats in the bottom of the 3rd, coming home on an error on a ball hit by Diaz. White then smoked his second homer of the game to score Diaz and make it 7-3.
Lynchburg would add two more runs in the 5th, but the Hillcats would never get closer than that. Riggs Threadgill got the win, pitching 1.1 innings in relief and getting the FredNats out of a bases-loaded jam in the 3rd. Marc Davis pitched the final three innings and earned his first career save. Davis allowed two runs and struck out four.
Game two was rained out and postponed. The two teams will play a 7-inning doubleheader on Thursday, with the first pitch in game one scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
Wilmington Blue Rocks
Wednesday night the Wilmington Blue Rocks lost to the Rome Braves 3-1. Getting the loss for the Blue Rocks was RHP Seth Shuman dropping his record to 1-1 with an ERA of 2.79. Shuman went five innings giving up eight hits, and three runs, striking out five and giving up one home run.
Tonight the Blue Rocks will continue their series against the Rome Braves with the first pitch at 7:00 p.m. The Blue Rocks will be sending newly promoted RHP Rodney Theophile to the mound for the Blue Rocks.
Harrisburg Senators
The Senators scored twice in the first and four times in the third to cruise to a 6-2 win in game 2 of their doubleheader with the Bowie Baysox Wednesday night. Wilson Garcia hit a two-run first-inning home run to give the Sens the lead. In-game one, the Senators loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning, trailing 4-2, but Garcia hit into a game-ending double play. Bowie scored three runs in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie.
Franklyn Kilome started game one and went five innings, taking the loss allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits. Edgar Garcia and Danny Dopico both pitched scoreless innings. Carson Teel made the spot start in game two going three scoreless frames and allowing three hits. Curtis Taylor earned the win in his Sens debut, retiring all six batters he faced. Reid Schaller pitched the final two frames and allowed two runs on one hit.
The Senators had seven hits in game one. No Sens batter had two hits and there were no extra-base hits. Harrisburg went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Wilson Garcia homered and doubled in game two. Justin Connell had two hits and drove in two runs. Harrisburg had ten hits in game two and went 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
The Senators committed two errors in game two, the first time committing two errors in a game in over two weeks. Bowie was officially the home team in game two since it was a make-up of a game postponed by rain in Bowie.
Rochester Red Wings
The Red Wings lost their second straight game tonight in Minnesota, falling 12-2 to the Saints.
The Wings suffered another tough start on the mound, with starting RHP Sterling Sharp giving up five hits and seven runs in just 1/3 of an inning. The next three relievers including Matt Brill, Matt Cronin, and Jace Fry all gave up runs as the Saints climbed to a 12-2 lead by the fifth.
DH Joey Meneses and RF Donovan Casey provided the only scoring for the Wings, each tallying a home run in the loss. Meneses’ homer was his 14th of the season and second in the last two games.
Rochester registered four hits to St. Paul’s 13, as Mark Contreras and Jake Cave notched three hits apiece.
LF Andrew Stevenson committed an error for the first time in 32 games, while LHP Fry saw his seven straight scoreless innings streak come to an end.
The Wings will send RHP Logan Verrett to the mound on Thursday night at 8:07 p.m. with a chance to slow down the streaking Saints.
