What a great story... Joey Meneses has been on a tear for the Nationals since joining the majors, plus the Nationals' looking for their first walk-off of the 2023 season makes an end to a rather ordinary August game that means nothing for the season.

However, it's okay to celebrate a feel-good story that has been full of a lot of heartbreak. Tonight, at Nationals Park, Joey Meneses has been on a tear for the team since being called up.

Before tonight's game, in his 24 games since making his Major League debut in August, Joey Meneses was hitting .333 (31-for-93) with six doubles, six home runs, 11 RBI, four walks, and 16 runs scored. He's hit safely in 21 of the 24 games. His 31 hits through his first 24 games are the most by any rookie through his first 24 games in Nationals history (2005-pres.), ahead of Anthony Rendon (30 in 2013). Meneses doubled three times on Tuesday night against Oakland, becoming the first rookie in the franchise to double three times in a game.

Tonight he went 4-6 with the walk-off hit... not a bad night. Not a bad way to kick off September and maybe a new outlook for the Nationals.
