There was a couple of items that we were interested in finding more out and reporters who attended the daily Davey Martinez session. Here are some interesting highlights coming from that session:
Stephen Strasburg:
This is obviously something that we are going to be following all season long and it was a topic that was discussed today. We already knew that Strasburg threw to live hitters today. According to various accounts from West Palm Beach, Strasburg threw 25 pitches to live hitters today and was the first time that he did that since his thoracic outlet surgery in July. Additionally, during the press conference, Davey did not commit to any sort of timeline for Strasburg moving forward and that the focus is to get him totally ready for the season and keep him healthy long-term.
Patrick Corbin:
Just like Strasburg, the Nationals need Patrick Corbin to regain his 2019 form. Corbin will be making his live pitching debut tomorrow at camp and is planning on throwing 35-40 pitches. Let's hope that Corbin can have a bounce-back year from 2021.
Josiah Gray:
Washington Nationals' most recent pitching acquisition Josiah Gray threw 29 pitches to live batters today. As one reporter mentioned from the call, "Davey was impressed with his first-pitch strike frequency."
