Well as the Nationals head towards the end of the 2022 season, it seems that pitching injuries are happening with frequency. Last night LHP Patrick Corbin game with back spasms after throwing just 12 pitches in the first inning.

"I didn't feel anything before or going into [the start]. The last pitch that I threw just kind of grabbed on me," Corbin said in his post-game comments. "... It's in a spot right in the middle of my back on the lower side of it. If I could have pitched, I would have. Never want to put the bullpen in a situation like that. I tried to wait as long as I could to see if it would, but it just wasn't going away. I don't think it'll be too serious."

In his post-game comments, last night manager Dave Martinez said: “It was back spasms, so we'll see how he feels tomorrow… He threw a pitch and [his back] tightened up on him. He started trying to stretch, we went out there and he said it just cramped up on him. He couldn't get loose. He tried to get back on the mound. As he was going back on the mound, he said he just couldn't get loose. So smart thing to do is to get him out of there.”

Corbin helped Washington win the World Series in his first season in D.C. in 2019, but years 2-4 of his 6-year/$140M contract have been nothing but horrible.

Corbin took the mound last night in Atlanta coming off a six-inning outing against Baltimore in which he bounced back from the start in Philadelphia with a strong turn in which he gave up just four hits and one run in a 6-2 loss to the Orioles in which he received no decision.
