Tuesday night, the Washington Nationals won 10-2 over the Colorado Rockies thanks to a great pitching performance from RHP Erick Feede. Feede only gave up just one run in seven innings. Here are some quotes from yesterday's game:
"You know what, I don’t even know what he was thinking... When we get guys on base like that, he’s the guy we want up. I saw him square around, and honestly, I thought: ‘He just wants to see a pitch.’ And then he bunted the ball, and I was like … uh, OK. …" Dave Martinez on Juan Soto's surprise bunt attempt
“I feel like we’ve watched a couple guys do it the last few series... I think it’s in the back of all of our heads: Just pull that defender in if you can. And if not, so be it. But I could see him doing that again in the next couple of weeks, squaring around and hitting a homer in the same at-bat, too. Watch out for that one.” Josh Bell on Juan Soto's surprise bunt attempt
“That’s what this game’s all about... That’s why I love hitting behind him.” Josh Bell on hitting behind Juan Soto
“He tried it before the game; he got it loose... And then as the game went on, he’s sitting there, and it just tightened up. He said it isn’t bad, but I said, 'Let’s just get you out and get you worked on, and we’ll see how you feel tomorrow." Dave Martinez on Nelson Cruz exiting the game due to lower back stiffness.
“It’s awesome... It’s a lot of fun right now to watch him work at-bats; it really is. He’s staying on the ball; [Bell] he’s hitting the ball up the middle, [and] he’s using the whole field. When he gets like this, we’ve seen it before, he can carry a team -- and he’s doing it right now.” Dave Marinez on Josh Bell's most recent hot streak at the plate.
"Realistically, I’m just trying to hit low, hard-line drives every at-bat... If the pitch is elevated, then I’ll do damage with it. But if it’s not, I don’t want to bury it into the ground. For the most part, I’ve felt like I’ve been in a good place.... I feel like if I had to choose a category, RBIs are cool... I think OPS is something that I’ve grown to be more interested in over the last couple of years. Those two at the end of the year, if I can lead in those two categories, I’m going to be in a really good place and so will the team.” Nationals 1B Josh Bell discusses his most recent hot streak at the plate.
“I haven’t gone seven a ton in my career,... That guy got to third in the seventh inning, and I told myself, ‘You’re not letting him score.’ I didn’t want to feel like I ruined my outing in ... the last inning giving up a run. So just to get through that, it was a really good feeling.” RHP Erick Fedde discussing his performance Tuesday night against the Colorado Rockies.
