As our friends at Talk Nats reported this morning, the Washington Nationals were planning on calling up Washington Natioinals prospect Luis García if Alcides Escobar was put on the IL, and now it is official.
The Washington Nationals just announced that they have called up SS Luis García from Triple-A Rochester. García has been extremely productive while at Triple-A Rochester with a batting average of .314 and an OPS of .899. Additionally, Garica has hit eight home runs, and 32 RBIs, with 175 at-bat appearances.
García, 22, has played in 110 MLB games over the last 2 seasons.
García, 22, joins the Nationals after recording a .314/.368/.531 slash line with six doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 32 RBI, 16 walks, one stolen base, and 39 runs scored in 42 games for Triple-A Rochester.
Who knows if this is a permanent call-up or just a spot start.
