Rochester, NY - This afternoon, the Rochester Red Wings get shout out by the Scranton/WB RailRiders 3-0.

LHP Andrew Alverez got his second career start at the Triple-A level this afternoon and went 5.0 shout-out innings, giving up four hits, striking out two, and walking no batters.

Alverez threw 63 pitches, 44 being strikes, and faced 19 batters. This is the fifth time this season that Alvarez has pitched at least 5.0 scoreless innings and the first time since game one on 5/26 against Akron (CLE) with Double-A Harrisburg. Between Rochester and Harrisburg this season, he posts a 3.41 ERA (23 ER/60.2 IP), which is the fourth-best among Nationals Minor Leaguers.

The Red Wings only got one hit the entire game and went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. RF Travis Blankenhorn got the sole hit for the Red Wings by getting a single on a sharp line drive to right field in the bottom of the fourth to log the lone hit for the Red Wings this afternoon. Blankenhorn finished 1-for-4 and has hit safely in 19 of his last 22 games dating back to May 19 against Buffalo.

The Red Wing's offense was held scoreless for the second-straight game this afternoon on one hit. This is the first time Rochester has been shut out in back-to-back nine-inning home games since May 27 vs. Durham and May 28 against Richmond in 2007.

Next, the Rochester Red Wings will continue their series against Scranton/WB RailRiders tomorrow night, with the first pitch at 6:45 p.m. RHP Thaddeus Ward (4-3, 6.89 ERA) will get the start for the Red Wings while Scranton/WB RailRiders will send RHP Will Warren (4-4, 7.24 ERA) to the mound.
