The Nationals stay in DC for more divisional games, look for revenge against the Mets after their August sweep.

Let's take a look at the projected pitching matchups for the series against the New York Mets.

Friday, September 3, RHP Sean Nolin (0-2, 6.57 ERA) vs. RHP Rich Hill (6-6, 4.11 ERA) | First Pitch: 7:05 pm

The first game against the Mets will give us Sean Nolin against Hill. Nolin has only pitched three times all season after being picked up by the Nationals in August. His first matchup was against the Mets where he threw three innings and gave up four runs on only 51 pitches. Nolin has gradually built himself up, throwing 81 and 71 pitches in his last two games. He has also only given up five runs in his last 9.1 innings which is much better than his first outing.

Rich Hill takes the mound for New York Friday and this will be his third matchup against the Nationals since being traded to the Mets. Since coming to New York, Hill has an ERA of 4.15. Hill has been average against Washington, giving up five runs in eight innings as a Met. Over his career, Hill has 10 appearances against the Nationals with an ERA of 4.64.

Saturday, September 4, RHP Erick Fedde (6-9, 5.08 ERA) vs. RHP Marcus Stroman (9-12, 2.85 ERA) | First Pitch: 1:05 pm

Fedde gets the first start of the Saturday doubleheader after his last outing was also against the Mets. In that game, Fedde threw 5.1 innings and gave up six runs. What was the most unfortunate was Fedde struck out 10 batters in 6.1 innings the game before. Fedde has had a lot of inconsistency in 2021 and will need a bounceback given that his lifetime ERA against the Mets is 4.75.

Facing Fedde in Game one will be one of the Mets top pitchers Marcus Stroman. Stroman has pitched five or more innings in each start in July and August and has two starts against Washington in that time. He pitched a total of 11.1 innings and gave up only three runs in that time. Against Washington in his career, Stroman has four total appearances with an ERA of 4.64.

Saturday, September 4, TBD vs. TBD | First Pitch: 6:05 pm

This will be the second seven-inning game of the day, the pitchers have yet to be announced.

Sunday, September 5, RHP Josiah Gray (0-2, 4.73 ERA) vs. TBD | First Pitch: 1:05 pm

Josiah Gray will take the mound Sunday afternoon hoping to rebound after his rough start against Philadelphia. In that outing, he gave up six runs and three walks in only four innings of work. Gray had been solid prior to that, going five innings twice and six innings the other three starts. This will be Gray's first career start against the Mets.

The Mets have yet to list their starting pitcher for Sunday afternoon.

The game can be seen on MASN and heard on 106.7, the Fan.

Monday, September 6, LHP Patrick Corbin (7-14, 6.26 ERA) vs. TBD | First Pitch: 6:05 pm

The final game of this series will feature a still struggling Patrick Corbin who has given up 12 runs over his last two starts. That comes out to an ERA of 13.50 which is horrific. It is a two-game sample, but it is how Corbin’s season has gone. His last start against the Mets was on June 20th where Corbin did pitch six innings while striking out seven batters and giving up two runs. Corbin has 19 career appearances against the Mets with an ERA of 4.36.

The Mets have yet to list their starting pitcher for Monday night.
