Good Sunday Morning, Washington Nationals fans.
Your Special Sunday Morning Briefing for November 23, 2024
The countdown to Thanksgiving is officially within the single digits and reach! We can't wait for Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday of the year. What's your favorite Thanksgiving side? Let us know! My favorite side is Mac and Cheese, and in a really close second is Green Bean Casserole with French's Original Crispy Fried Onions.
GO COMMANDERS! The Washington Commanders are set to face their division rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, in a highly-anticipated matchup. Despite the Cowboys' recent struggles, this game always brings out the best in both teams. As the Commanders look to rebound from their recent losses, this game presents a crucial opportunity to regain momentum heading into what hopefully can be a push for the playoffs. I can't believe that I am typing this after a horrible 2023.
Talking about the Commanders spotted at the November 10th Commanders game was third-baseman free agent Alex Bregman. I am sure that you saw the news via X. Hmm...
The Big news from this weekend. On Friday night, the Washington Nationals announced they tendered contracts to all unsigned 40-man roster players except for relievers RHP Kyle Finnegan and RHP Tanner Rainey. Finnegan and Rainey are now free agents, which means that the Nationals could re-sign Finnegan if the two sides could develop a long-term agreement. With Tanner Rainey off the Nationals roster, it marks one less Washington Nationals player to be with the team during their magical run to a World Series in 2019.
The big picture. What is the big pitcher here, with the two of the top Washington Nationals relievers and closers now off the roster? What are the Nationals plans for the future in the bullpen? Will we see more mid-level tier Nationals prospects be promoted to fill the bullpen for 2025? Will we see some big free agent deliver signings this winter?
Guess Who?? Who are the big free-agent relievers that are available now? Well, here are the top five relievers, according to MLB.com:
- Tanner Scott (30 years old, 4.5 WAR)
- Jeff Hoffman (32, 3.6)
- David Robertson (40, 3.1)
- Aroldis Chapman (37, 2.9)
- Clay Holmes (32, 2.8)
Could we see one of these big names in a Washington Nationals uniform this season? Ah, welcome to the Hot Stove, right? Now the Nationals need to figure out how and who to solidify the bullpen and closer spot. (Talking about uniforms, check out our Nats Stat on the Nationals record this past season in various uniforms.)
Around the neighborhood, just because the Nationals aren't playing doesn't mean I can't have fun with my son at a University of Maryland Terrapins Football game. Last Saturday night, I took my son to our first University of Maryland Terrapins Football game when they faced Rutgers. It was a lot of fun, even though they lost big time. He wore Nationals gear to the game! Thanks to Talk Terps for the tickets.
