Good Morning, Washington Nationals Fans,

Here are the latest headlines and analyses around the Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball for today, April 25.

Welcome to the Morning Briefing! Haden here. Let’s talk about yesterday’s game.

Leading this Morning’s Briefing: Nats give up blowup loss to Dodgers

Jake Irvin gave up six runs in 4.2 innings. Tanner Rainey and Matt Barnes combined for an additional five runs in the eighth and ninth innings. No matter how many runs the Nationals scored, they were pretty much guaranteed a loss. And that’s ok. The Dodgers are on paper the best team in baseball, with three future Hall of Famers and former MVPs in the first three spots of the lineup, with three plus regulars hitting behind them.

The Nationals lineup only mustered three hits against Landon Knack this go around, but at least Nick Senzel homered. Luis García Jr. and Joey Meneses got the other two hits.

Last night was the first time Joey Gallo played in the outfield. If Jacob Young gets a start with Gallo in right field, the Nationals will have by far their best defensive alignment of the season on the field.

Keibert Ruiz re-joins the team after his bout with the flu. The team sent Millas back to Triple-A Rochester as the corresponding move. Ruiz made positive strides defensively so far this season, and if the bat can come back to 2023 levels, then we may finally see that breakout year from Ruiz from a value standpoint.

Today, MacKenzie Gore takes the mound against Yoshinobu Yamamoto at 4:05 pm. The game will be televised on MASN.

Down in the Minors

Red Wings 7, St. Paul Saints 5: James Wood, Alex Call, and Jackson Cluff all doubled. Juan Yepez and Call both got two hits on the day. Rico Garcia notched a two-inning save.

Senators 3, Erie SeaWolves 2: Robert Hassell III went 1-3 with two walks  and Andrew Pinckney went 2-4 with two stolen bases and a walk. Keibert Ruiz stole a base. Andrew Alvarez had a bounce-back five-inning start where he struck out six.

Brooklyn Cyclones 13, Blue Rocks 3: Kevin Made got two hits including a double. Daylen Lile and Maxwell Romero Jr. got a hit. TJ White and Marcus Brown drew a walk.

Nationals 6, Delmarva Shorebirds 0: Brandon Pimentel and Phillip Glasser continue to destroy Low-A pitching, combining for a 5-9 day with Glasser drawing a walk and Pimentel doubling. Armando Cruz stays hot with two hits. Elijah Green got a hit and a stolen base but struck out three times. He is currently rocking a 45.1 percent strikeout rate but is getting to his power more often.
