Leading this Morning's Briefing: Nats Send Down Trey Lipscomb, Call Up Harold Ramirez

The Nationals fell in game one of the series vs the Padres in extra innings. During the game the newest National, Harold Ramirez, made his team debut. Ramirez pinch hit for Eddie Rosario in the 7th inning and finished the night 0-2 with two groundouts.

Ramirez was signed to a minor league deal after the Rays released him on June 14. Despite having a career year in 2023, Ramirez was off to a slow start in the 2024 campaign. Ramirez had a triple slash of .268/.284/.305 in 48 games with the Rays.

Ramirez fills the open spot in the 40-man the Nationals have had for a few weeks. In just 7 games with the Rochester Red Wings, Ramirez hit .375 and got his walk rate up to 17% in admittedly a small sample size.

The Nationals sent down Trey Lipscomb III as he continues to struggle up at the big league level to make room for Ramirez on the active roster.

CJ Abrams continues his June tear as his on-base streak reached 15 games and he has hit safely in 14 of 16 games so far this month. In June Abrams is hitting .357/.416/.643 with a 1.058 OPS.

The Nats look to bounce back from a tough loss tonight as MacKenzie Gore (6-6 3.49) takes the mound against his former team and Adam Mazur (0-2 7.27). Gore has faced the Padres twice in his career before amassing a 1-0 record and a 3.72 ERA, including a 9-strikeout performance his last time facing them.

First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 PM Eastern Time on MASN2.
