Welcome to the Morning Briefing! Haden here. The Nats lost last night. Let’s talk about it.

Leading this Morning's Briefing: Nats get just four hits off Diamondbacks

The Nationals offense mustered just four hits last night. Three of those hits came off the Diamondbacks starter Slade Cecconi, who had a 6.70 ERA heading into the night. CJ Abrams and Jesse Winker are the only ones to notch hits, each with two.

Irvin kept himself in trouble, walking four batters and allowing eight hits in his five innings. It was by far the worst start of Irvin’s season.

On the bright side, the Nationals only used Tanner Rainey, Jordan Weems, and Jacob Barnes to get through the rest of the game, which means that the rest of the bullpen is well-rested.

That well-rested bullpen will come in following Patrick Corbin’s start, who will be taking on RHP Brandon Pfaadt (3-5, 4.38 ERA). Pfaadt is a former top prospect who has been thrust into the ace role with three of the D-Backs’ top starters on the injured list.

First pitch is at 4:05 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on MASN2.
