The Nationals are hot again. After getting swept by the Mets at the start of June, the Nationals have bounced back and won eight of ten in series against the Braves, Tigers, and Marlins. The Nats’ starting pitching was excellent this weekend, with MacKenzie Gore, DJ Herz, and Mitchell Parker combining for 19 innings, 27 strikeouts, one walk, and two earned runs.

Washington, D.C. - Today, the Washington Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 4-0. The Nationals now have a record of 34-36 and 15-17 at Nationals Park. The Nationals will go for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon and send LHP Mitchell Parker to the mound in hopes of getting the win.

Obviously, Herz stole the spotlight with his 13 strikeout performance, but Gore and Parker had fantastic starts against the Marlins. The pitching continues to be the bright spot for the Nationals, with the rotation being rated as the third most valuable in baseball according to FanGraphs. This is all with Patrick Corbin taking the mound once a week.

Washington, D.C. - Good teams are supposed to beat teams that are struggling or in last place in the division. The Nationals got a good start tonight by beating the Miami Marlins 8-1. The Nationals plated eight runs on 13 hits and committed one error. Their record now stands at 33-36, with a home record of 14-17.

The lineup combined for 15 runs over the weekend, with most coming in a seven-run third inning during game one. Lane Thomas homered in every game this weekend and Jacob Young got his first major league home run in yesterday’s game.
The Nationals have the day off today as they prepare to host the Diamondbacks.
Nationals sign 1B/DH Harold Ramírez on minors deal
The Nationals signed former Ray Harold Ramírez over the weekend. Ramírez had solid 2022 and 2023 seasons, where he hit .306/.348/.432 as purely a versus left bat. He play in the outfield in a pinch, but Ramírez is at his best when he comes in at DH against a left-handed hitter.

The Washington Nationals announced that they have signed designated hitter/outfielder Harold Ramirez to a Minor League contract and will report to Triple A-Rochester. The Tampa Bay Rays just released Ramirez. According to MLB Trade Rumors, the “Rays will remain on the hook for the balance of Ramirez’s $3.8MM salary. There’s about $2.19MM of that sum left…

With Joey Gallo out for a significant time, an opportunity arises for these types of bats. While Ramírez never walked much, his walk rate fell to a rough 1.8 percent. At the same time, his strikeouts crept up and power plummeted.
Still, the Nationals hope that with a strong series in Rochester this week, Ramírez will be ready for MLB at bats. Ramírez makes more sense on the roster than Trey Lipscomb, and will likely take his spot. Once up, expect Ramírez to fill the platoon with Eddie Rosario.
This is unfortunately the spot the Nationals have put themselves in. While they theoretically had three first basemen before Gallo hit the IL, they never played Winker at the position.
