Good Morning, Washington Nationals Fans,
Here are the latest headlines and analyses around the Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball for today, April 9.
Welcome to the Morning Briefing! Haden here. Let’s talk about yesterday’s game!
Leading this Morning’s Briefing: Nats win the night game without their shortstop
It did not take much for Trevor Williams to outduel Blake Snell last night. Williams kept the good vibes going by throwing five innings of one-run ball. The bullpen kept the Giants scoreless as they racked up five punchouts in four innings.
Offensively is where the Nats truly shined, putting up eight runs on ten hits and seven walks. Lane Thomas was put in the three-hole and hit like a three-hole hitter, going 3-5 with a home run. Trey Lipscomb had himself a night, going 3-5 with three stolen bases, including home. Joey Gallo stayed hot, notching himself a double. Luis García Jr. got an RBI single and a stolen base.
Joey Meneses needs a good series bad, as he did nothing in four at-bats. His OPS fell to .532. He is still hitting the ball hard at a decent rate. The issue more so lies when he does not surpass that 95 mph threshold. When that does not happen, Meneses’s batted ball is a guaranteed out. But hey, we are just 11 games into the season. He has plenty of time to turn it around.
The Nats have another late-night start against the Giants tonight, with the first pitch scheduled for 9:45 ET. The game will be televised on MASN.
