Good Morning Washington Nationals Fan,

Here are the latest headlines and analyses around the Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball for today, September 5, 2023. My name is Haden Raymer, let’s dive into the news.

Leading today’s Morning Briefing: The Nationals take on a new Mets team

If you told anyone that both the Washington Nationals and the New York Mets would be sellers at the trade deadline before the season started, they would look at you like you were crazy. Well, they both were, with the Mets now one game ahead of the Nationals in the division.

The Mets traded away aces Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, as well as position players like Tommy Pham and Eduardo Escobar. These new Mets have relied heavily on the heroics of Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, and the unlikely DJ Stewart. They have added even more young talent to the roster, with Ronny Mauricio the latest to join the roster, playing at second base.

The Mets have been better of late, winning one more game over the last ten compared to the Nationals. But thankfully, the Mets are not the Marlins, so the Nats can hopefully put up a good fight.

Tonight Patrick Corbin will take on LHP José Quintana (1-5, 3.26 ERA) at 7:05 p.m. on MASN.

Don’t forget to check the site for our game notes two hours before the game.
