Today's Top Story: The Nationals Head to Los Angeles

After finally taking the field for three games in 24 hours, the Washington Nationals begin their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday with a 1-2 record. The Nationals are trying to bounce back after getting swept in a doubleheader on Wednesday. However, they will have to do so while still having a handful of key players stuck in quarantine and questionable to play in this series.

ICYMI: The Curious Case of Erick Fedde

Due to COVID protocols, the Nationals were scheduled to play a doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday to close out their first series. After taking the home opener on Tuesday with a depleted roster, the Nationals wanted nothing more than to compete with the Braves and not blow through their bullpen in the first game of the doubleheader. Forced into duty due to both Patrick Corbin and Jon Lester being unavailable, RHP Erick Fedde took the mound for the Nationals in Game1.

What Happens To the Washington Nationals When The “Regulars” Return?

The Nats Report Contributor Frank dives deep into what will happen when all the "regular" players come back from COVID-19 protocols. Which "replacements" are going to be moved down to the minors, and who should stay. From the article: "With both starting catcher Yan Gomes and backup Alex Avila out due to COVID protocol, this forced the Nationals to go outside the organization and bring in free-agent veteran Jonathan Lucroy. The 34-year-old has looked good so far in two starts, going 2-for-7 overall and hitting a crucial two-run double in the season-opening win. This is obviously a very small sample size, but what if he continues to perform while we wait for Gomes and Avila to return. It is certain that Gomes has a spot on this team, so there really is no point in discussing him."
