Leading this Morning's Briefing: Washington Nationals drop 5-2 decision to Colorado Rockies: Sloppy play dooms the Washington Nationals & LHP Patrick Corbin.
After a brief rain delay on Wednesday night, the Washington Nationals lost to the Colorado Rockies 5-2 thanks to some poor play where the Nationals committed three errors during the game. One bright note from the game was LHP Patrick Corbin, who went eight innings and gave up nine hits, and five runs (three of those runs were only earned), and Corbin struck out three. Corbin has yet to win a game this season as he is 0-5 with an ERA of 7.16
On the other side of the ball...
Yadiel Hernández improved to 9 for 14 in three-plus games on the Nats’ road trip and 21 for 58, and his batting average is .362 in 62 plate appearances in 2022, with a total of seven doubles, a home run, three walks, and 12 Ks in 16 games. His 3 for 5 game for the Nationals in the series opener with the Rockies had his manager completely impressed.
The three-hit game in the first of three with the Rockies “... was his third straight multi-hit game,” the Nationals mentioned in their pregame notes for the middle game of the series. He’d “hit safely in six of his last seven games, going 12 for 29 (.414) with five doubles, one homer, 11 RBI, one walk, and five runs scored,” over that stretch.
