This morning, it has been reported that the Washington Nationals have signed OF Kyle Schwarber to a 1-year deal, pending a physical.

Kyle Schwarber was tendered this offseason by the Chicago Cubs. Manager Davey Martinez is familiar with OF Kyle Schwarber due to his time with the Chicago Cubs.

Schwaber will play left field, therefore moving Juan Soto to the right side of the outfield. This move also gives the Nationals three potentially big left-handed bats (Soto, Schwarber, Bell) but leaves them with some pretty shaky defense at several positions that they still need to address.

In 2019, he batted .250/.339/.531 with 38 home runs and 92 RBIs. He was thrown the highest percentage of curveballs of all major league batters (14.7%). In 2019, on defense, he led all National League left fielders in errors, with 6, and had the lowest fielding percentage of all major league left fielders (.974).

Schwaber was part of the 2016 World Series Chicago Cubs team. During that postseason, Schwaber had 17 at-bats and had a batting average of .412 with 2 RBI's and a .971 slugging percentage.
