Washington, D.C. – The Washington Nationals continued their winning streak with a 4-1 victory over the Miami Marlins at Nationals Park.
With their record now at 67-81, the Nationals are just five wins away from matching their season win total from last year, with only 14 games remaining in the regular season.
LHP Patrick Corbin, in his final year with the Nationals, was the winning pitcher. He delivered a solid performance, pitching six innings of three-hit, one-run baseball. Corbin struck out six and walked one, throwing 94 pitches (59 strikes) and facing 22 batters. Corbin has now allowed two or fewer earned runs in five of his last six starts, and during this stretch, Corbin has a 4-1 record with a 3.44 ERA over 34.0 innings pitched and allowed only 13 earned runs.
RHP Kyle Finnegan earned his 38th save of the season, continuing his strong contributions to the Nationals' bullpen. He now has the fourth-most saves in a season in Nationals history.
Offensively, the Nationals scored four runs on eight hits. Juan Yepez, José Tena, Keibert Ruiz, and Joey Gallo each drove in a run.
Keibert Ruiz kicked off the Nationals scoring by giving them a 2-1 lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning, and Ruiz has been on a hot streak. Over Ruiz's last ten games, he is hitting .378 (14-for-37) with seven doubles, a home run, five RBI, three walks, two stolen bases, and five runs scored. Ruiz finished the day 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a stolen base. When Ruiz stole third, he became the only catcher in Major League Baseball to steal third more than once this season
