Miami, FL- The Washington Nationals defeated the Miami Marlins 6-2. The Nationals' record has improved to 62-76, and they are now 30-39 on the road and 1-1 during September. The Nationals are now 8-0 against the Marlins for the 2024 season.

This was a much-needed win after the Nationals were swept by the Chicago Cubs at home over the weekend.

LHP Patrick Corbin pitched another strong outing where he pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, striking out eight, and walking three. Corbin also improves to 5-12. This was another strong outing by Corbin, whose last start was against the New York Yankees, where he pitched 6.0 shutout innings on two hits and two walks in a 4-2 win at Nationals Park on August 27.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Nationals were led by RBIs from Joey Gallo (3), Keibert Ruiz (1), and Jacob Young (1). Led by a three-run 415-foot home run by Joey Gallo in the top of the fourth, scoring Andrés Chaparro and James Wood, and a 378-foot solo home run by Keibert Ruiz in the top of the sixth, the Nationals were able to get the run support to secure the win.

The Nationals added an extra run in the top of the ninth to give the Nationals a bit of breathing room.

Up next: Tomorrow, the Washington Nationals are scheduled to start LHP MacKenzie Gore (8-11, 4.45 ERA) on the mound to face the Marlins, and the Nationals are scheduled to start RHP Valente Bellozo (2-2, 4.32 ERA)

MacKenzie Gore has been impressive in his last two starts, going 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA. Valente Bellozo, 24, will make his ninth career Major League start tomorrow, fourth at home, and first start against the Washington Nationals. In his last outing on Aug. 29 against the Rockies, Bellozo pitched 4.0 innings. Allowed a career-high six earned runs on seven hits, two walks, four strikeouts, and three homeruns.
