Tampa, FL—Today, the Washington Nationals were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-0, leaving them one win away from their first winning record in a month since 2019.

The Nationals just concluded a nine-game, 10-day road trip that included Colorado, San Diego, and Tampa Bay stops.

The Nationals have a record of 39-44 and are 22-25 on the road this season. The Nationals are 12-9 since June 7 and 18-17 since May 24. The Nationals will finish the month of June with a record of 13-14.

Getting the start for the Nationals in today’s game was LHP Patrick Corbin still searching for his second win. Corbin pitched 6.0 innings and gave up four runs on six hits. He struck out five but gave up two homeruns. Corbin threw 94 pitches, 61 being strikes, and faced 26 batters.

Corbin got the loss and now has a 1-8 record on the season. RHP Jordan Weems gave up the only other run this afternoon thanks to a Randy Arozarena home run in the bottom of the fifth.

The Nationals were shut out this afternoon and only got three hits thanks to hits from CJ Abrams, Jacob Young, and Harold Ramírez. The Nationals went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

Next, the Washington Nationals will return to kick off a seven-game homestand. The New York Mets will visit Monday through Thursday, and the St. Louis Cardinals will visit for the weekend. The Nationals are slated to send LHP MacKenzie Gore (6-7; 3.60 ERA) to the mound, while the New York Mets are slated to send LHP David Peterson (3-0; 3.67 ERA).

Entering tomorrow’s game, LHP MacKenzie Gore ranks third among National League left-handed pitchers (fifth among all MLB left-handed pitchers) in strikeouts since the beginning of the 2023 season (250 in 221.1 innings).
