Washington, D.C. - The Washington Nationals lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-2 tonight. The Nationals now have a record of 10-13.
RHP Jake Irvin got the start for the Washington Nationals tonight against the Dodgers. The right-hander went 4.2 in innings, pitched 103, and 66 were strikes. Irvin faced 26 batters, striking out three, walking one, and giving up six runs on 12 hits and got the loss. His record now sits at 1-2 for the season.
The Nationals were only able to score two runs on three hits and went 0-2 with runners in scoring position.
The Nationals got their only runs from a Nick Senzel home run in the bottom of the second to center field, landing 402ft. The hit had a launch angle 24 and an exit velocity of 103.1 mph. The Nationals also got a run-through a bases load. Joey Meneses walked right after the homerun after a Trey Lipscomb, CJ Abrams, and Jesse Winker walk. But a Luis García Jr. ground into a force-out ended the inning and the possibility of at least tying it up.
CJ Abrams, entering tonight’s game, was in the midst of a career-high nine-game hitting streak. However, that streak ended tonight as he went 0-3 with a strikeout.
Tanner Rainey also gave up two runs on three hits, which included a Shohei Ohtani RBI double, his 13th of the season that scored Mookie Betts from third and an Andy Pages home run to kick off the top of the eighth, which saw 33 pitches. However, Matt Barnes, who relieved Rainey, also gave up three runs on four hits and didn’t even strike out anyone.
That was all the Dodgers would need as they went on to win 11-2.
Next, the Washington Nationals will finish up the three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and for the year tomorrow afternoon. The Nationals are projected to send LHP MacKenzie Gore (2-1; 3.60 ERA) to the mound to face the Dodgers. (We will be taking a closer look at the final game of the matchup in tomorrow’s Game Notes.
