Washington, D.C. – After an hour and sixteen-minute rain delay, the Washington Nationals suffered another defeat at the hands of the San Diego Padres, losing 3-0.

The Padres completed a sweep of the Nationals today, capturing both this series and the one they won earlier in the season. The Nationals' home record now stands at 23-26; they are 8-12 in July. Today marked the second no-hitter in Nationals history. The first occurred last year on August 9th against the Phillies.

The Nationals sent LHP Patrick Corbin to the mound in pursuit of his 100th career win. However, a three-run top of the first inning led to a loss for Corbin. He pitched seven innings, surrendering three runs on four hits while striking out seven and walking three. Corbin faced 27 batters and threw 109 pitches, with 71 being strikes. He has now gone at least six innings in four of his last six starts. Corbin's record is now 2-10.

RHP Dylan Cease threw a no-hitter on Thursday against the Nationals, becoming the second pitcher in Padres history to accomplish the feat. Cease completed the no-hitter when CJ Abrams lined out to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning. The right-hander walked three batters and struck out nine on a season-high 114 pitches.

The Nationals managed to reach base only three times on Thursday. Lane Thomas drew a walk with one out in the first inning but was caught stealing. He walked again in the fourth but was erased on a double-play grounder by Jesse Winker. Abrams walked to lead off the seventh but was left stranded at second base. The Nationals were 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position and left one runner on base.

CJ Abrams went 0-for-2 with a walk, extending his on-base streak to nine of his last 12 games. During this stretch, Abrams has recorded a triple, a home run, three RBIs, two walks, two stolen bases, and four runs scored.

Lane Thomas finished 0-for-1 with two walks, extending his on-base streak to 22 games. Over the past 22 games, Thomas is batting .268 (22-for-82) with five doubles, five RBIs, 11 walks, nine stolen bases, and four runs scored.

The Nationals will travel to St. Louis to begin a weekend series against the Cardinals. The first pitch is scheduled for Friday at 8:15 p.m. ET.

Tomorrow's Probable Pitchers

LHP MacKenzie Gore (6-8, 4.20) will take the mound in the first game of the Nationals three-game series on Friday night. MacKenzie Gore has pitched to a 3.86 ERA on the road this season. Gore has allowed two earned runs or less in five of his seven starts away from Nationals Park.

MacKenzie Gore has a 0-1 record in two career appearances against the St. Louis Cardinals, across 9.1 innings pitched. He's struggled in these matchups, posting a 9.64 ERA with 13 strikeouts and 7 walks.

The Cardinals will send RHP Sonny Gray (10-6, 3.54) to the mound. Last time out, Gray got his team-high 10th win, doing so for the 1st time since 2019 and for the 6th time in his career. Gray allowed a career-high 4 HRs (all solo) but also fanned ten batters in his 7.0 IP in a 9-5 win at Atlanta.

Sonny Gray has faced the Nationals nine times in his career, compiling a 2-1 record over 44 innings pitched. He holds a 4.70 ERA against Washington with 35 strikeouts and 15 walks.
