Chicago, IL - The Washington Nationals snapped a five-game losing streak with a 5-1 win against the Chicago Cubs. This win comes after the Nationals were swept by the New York Mets and lost the series' first two games against the Chicago Cubs. The Nationals have a 33-47 record on the road; they are 33-36 this season and 69-86 overall.

LHP MacKenzie Gore got the start for the Washington Nationals this afternoon, and he pitched 7.0 innings, striking out nine, walking three, and giving up one run on one hit. The south-paw carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the eighth inning when Cubs DH Patrick Wisdom hit a solo home run. In Gore's last start against the Cubs on July 17, 2023, he struck out six over 6.1 innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits (two homers) and two walks in a 7-5 win at Wrigley Field on July 17.

With the win today, Gore will improve to 10 - 12 with a 4.04 ERA on the season.

Over his past six starts, Gore has an ERA of 1.82 (7 ER/32.2 IP), .185 opp. AVG, 0.95 WHIP, 36 strikeouts, and ten walks. Entering today's game, Gore had a 1-2 record with a 7.04 ERA (12 ER/15.1 IP) in his career against the Chicago Cubs.

In his last appearance on the mound, Gore pitched 6.0 innings, allowing no earned runs (one unearned) on two hits. Gore gave up only two walks and struck out five in the Nationals 4-3 win over Miami on September 15 at Nationals Park.

CJ Abrams Optioned down to the Rochester Red Wings
The Washington Nationals have demoted All-Star shortstop CJ Abrams to Triple-A Rochester. Reports indicate that off-field issues played a role in the decision.

On the offensive side of the ball, a three-run home run in the top of the sixth by Joey Gallo gave the Nationals a solid 5-0 lead entering the later parts of the game.

The Nationals will finish their four-game series against the Chicago Cubs tomorrow afternoon. The Nationals are scheduled to send RHP Jake Irvin with a 10 - 12 record, a 4.07 ERA, and 150 K. Irvin is coming off his own impressive out against the Mets, where he threw 7.1 innings, giving up only one run on four hits, striking out five. However, he got the no-decision. The Cubs are scheduled to start left-handed pitcher Shota Imanaga, who has a record of 14 - 3, a 3.03 ERA, and 170 K this season.
