Fredericksburg Nationals Story Line

After dropping the first two of the series against Delmarva, the FredNats look to get back on track on the first Thirsty Thursday of the season at Virginia Credit Union Stadium against the Delmarva Shorebirds.

RHP Jarlin Susana will make his third start of the season and will look to build on a strong outing last time out against Fayetteville, where he pitched 3 2/3 innings of scoreless ball with six strikeouts. He faces off against the lefty Jared Beck, who is the tallest pitcher in the Carolina League at 7 feet tall.

What you need to know

  • The Fredericksburg Nationals scored the first two runs of the game and got a solid start from Jake Bennett, but the Shorebirds scored 5 runs in the 7th and 8th innings combined to win 7-4 on Education Day. Sammy Infante and Paul Witt hit back-to-back solo home runs in the 9th, but the FredNats could not complete the comeback and lost their 7th game in the last 8 tries.
  • Jarlin Susana was acquired by the Nationals as a key piece in the Juan Soto trade last season, and he quickly showed why he’s such a tantalizing young arm. Susanna flashed a fastball that routinely hits triple digits, even reaching 103 MPH at one point, which was the fastest pitch thrown by a Nationals minor league player. At just 18 years old last season, Susana was the youngest pitcher in the Carolina League to log at least 10 innings. His slider profiles as his best secondary offering right now, with a curveball and sinking changeup still works in progress.
  • In his second year with the Fredericksburg Nationals, Sammy Infante has had a strong start to his 2023 campaign. The infielder leads the team with 12 hits, two home runs, and eight RBIs, and his OPS is over 1.000 through the first 11 games of the year.
