Our Un-Realistic Holiday Wish list for the Washington Nationals

What better way to celebrate the holidays with an over top wish list items for the Washington Nationals. But therein lies the fun. Here is our over full wish list for the Washington Nationals.

Wish List Item: A Catcher

JT Realmuto catcher

Well, this is an obvious wish list item for all Washington Nationals fans. With Kurt Suzuki, a free agent, the Nationals have an opening behind the plate, with holdover, Yan Gomes better suited for a backup role at this point in his career, its time to sign a brand new catcher, and there happens to be a big one in the free-agent market: J.T. Realmuto.

Previously, the Nationals talked extensively with the Marlins when Realmuto was in Maimi two years ago, and a deal couldn't be worked out. Now that he is a free agent, a match might be in the cards. If the Nationals could sign Realmuto, he will add a heavy hitter too much needed Washington Nationals lineup and take a great bat away from other NL East Teams such as the Mets and the Phillies. They are also in need of a catcher. Even if the Nationals miss out on Realmuto, there needs to be a solution to the catching situation. Our friends at Talk Nats discussed the possibility of signing free agent James McCann as a second option.

Wish List Item: Trade for Kris Bryant

Trading for Kris Byrant might not be an "over the top item," however, but if Mike Rizzo did make a deal, we would be excited about it. The more and more we think about the possibility for the Washington Nationals to bring this All-Star and Rookie of the Year over from the Chicago Cubs, we get even more excited. So Mike Rizzo, make it happen this holiday season! [Read our article about what Kris Bryant would bring to the Washington Nationals]

Wish List Item: 1st Baseman

This year the Washington Nationals have so many holes to fill, and a first baseman is one of those needs that need to be addressed this offseason. While we would love to see Mr. Washington Nationals Ryan Zimmerman come back to the team and get his going away recognition he deserves, either way, the Washington Nationals need to figure out a long-term solution to first base. One idea that we floated was bringing up Washington Nationals prospect Drew Mendoza.

As a 6-foot-5, 230-pound left-handed hitter, it is easy to dream about Mendoza's potential at the plate. Mendoza gets good leverage in his swing and knows how to impact the baseball, showing plus raw power that should improve as he adds strength. Mendoza's defense at the hot corner with the Seminoles drew mixed reviews from scouts, with most of the concerns stemming from his size and actions. The Nationals immediately moved him to first base in pro ball and have been pleased with the early results, noting that his feet and hands both work well there. [Read all of our other ideas here]

Wish List Item: Sign DJ LeMahieu

So, if we were going to go over the top with our wish list, why not ask Mike Rizzo and the gang to sign DJ LeMahieu. Even though there are some reasons not to overpay DJ LeMahieu, there are some reasons why the Nationals should go for it. One of the many reasons why the Nationals should go after LeMahieu is because he can play multiple positions in the infield. He could play second and even be a full-time first baseman, which would solve one of the many holes the Nationals need to fill.

Wish List Item: Locking up Trea Turner Long Term

Washington Nationals Shortstop Trea Turner

While this shouldn't be such an outrageous ask to make, it would be a great Holiday gift if the Nationals can lock up the shortstop Trea Turner for the long term. By signing Trea Turner to a long term deal, it would provide stability at shortstop and the top of the lineup. Additionally, Trea would be a great piece to build future Washington Nationals teams around.

Wish List Item: Sign Juan Soto and make him a National for Life

The 2019 National League wild card game

This deal would be the most fantastic news that us Nationals fans can ever get this holiday season. If Juan Soto became a Washington National for life, it would be the best holiday gift ever, seriously it would. Period end of paragraph.
