Héctor Gómez reports that the Nationals will make one final offer to Juan Soto following his rejection of a 440 million dollar/15-year offer (first reported by Ken Rosenthal). Should Soto refuse, the Nationals will trade the 23-year-old superstar, a stark change in posture as Rosenthal claimed the Nationals are "entertaining" a trade. Though alarm bells are ringing throughout Nats Twitter, no timetable has been reported for this.

While the offer may be made before this trade deadline, the ultimatum could very well come this offseason or next year. Regardless the sword of Damocles is swinging, and a franchise-changing moment is on the horizon.
