Report: New York Yankees to sign two time CY Young Winner Corey Kluber
It was just a matter of time before things got busy in the Bronx. It turns out that today was that day for the New York Yankees.
We were all waiting for the New York Yankees to make some moves off-season, and it looks like they did on Friday.
In the morning, it was reported that the New York Yankees signed top free-agent second baseman DJ LeMahieu to a six-year 90 million dollar contract. With an average annual value of $15 million, the six-year pact would provide the Yankees with relief as they aim to bring payroll below the $210 million luxury tax threshold this season.
But the New York Yankees were not done for the day. According to reports, the Yankees are signing two-time CY Young Award winner Corey Kluber to a one year $11 million deal.
During his peak years in Cleveland from 2014-18, Kluber averaged about 218 innings per season and combined for a stellar 2.85 ERA/2.99 SIERA with a 28.5 percent strikeout rate and a paltry 5.2 percent walk rate. There was no reason to expect a drop-off heading into 2019, but Kluber hasn’t been the same since then.
