Ever since the Lerner family signaled their intentions to sell the Nationals, speculation has been rampant that Wizards, Capitals owner Ted Leonsis would make a run at consolidating his D.C sports empire by buying the Nationals. Today, Leonsis' Mounumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) bought NBC Sports Washington, the holder of TV rights to the Caps and Wizards. This forshadowed the reporting later today by Barry Svrluga, Ben Strauss, and Chelsea Janes (Washington Post) that Leonsis will be given access to the Nats' financial data, an important step in a sale of this kind. It is unclear as of this time whether or not Leonsis will make a bid by himself, or as part of a larger group of investors.
