Game Story Line

The Washington Nationals kick off a weekend series against the NL West first-place LA Dodgers.

Game Highlights

  • WELCOME BACK TO THE SHOW. This morning, the Washington Nationals recalled Luis García from Triple-A Rochester and placed catcher Riley Adams on the 10-day Injured List with a broken left hamate bone.  García, 23, returns to the Nationals after hitting .325 (13-for-40) with three doubles, eight RBI, three walks, and six runs scored in his last 11 games with the Red Wings. He hit safely in eight of the 11 games, and in his last three games prior to being recalled, went 6-for-13 (.462) with two doubles, including a three-hit effort on Sept. 5 at Syracuse (NYM).
  • WALK IT OFF. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, in Wednesday’s walk-off win against the New York Mets, the Washington Nationals have recorded 13 wins when tied or behind after the sixth since the All-Star break, the most in Major League Baseball.  The Nationals rank sixth in the Major Leagues with 59 runs scored during the ninth inning.
  • STILL FOREVER YOUNG. Washington Nationals outfielder Jacob Young has hit the majors with force. Young has reached base safely in all 10 games in the Major leagues. During that span, he has a .386 OBP, 10 hits, and four walks. In the last game against the New York Mets, Young hit his first career walk-off to help the Nationals beat the Mets.
  • THE POWERFUL LANE TRAIN. Entering tonight’s game, Lane Thomas has homered in three straight games for the first time in his professional career. The longest streak where a National has hit in consecutive games was when Bryce Harper hit four home runs in a row from April 14-17, 2016. Thomas is currently 7-13 registering three home runs, five RBI and three runs scored over his last three games, and is tied for fifth in the National League in hits; seventh in doubles, and seventh in total bases. However, he does lead Major League Baseball with his own career-high of 15 outfield assists.

On the bump for the Nationals: LHP MacKenzie Gore

LHP MacKenzie Gore enters tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a record of 7-10 and an ERA of 4.98. So far this season, Gore has pitched a total of 132.1  innings, striking out 147, and has a WHIP of 1.37. Over the past seven games, Gore has a record of 2-3 with an ERA of 3.47. He has struck out 33, walked 14 and gave up 14 earned runs on 30 hits.

Career against the Dodgers. Gore faces the Dodgers for the second time in his career. This will be his first game as a Washington National facing the Dodgers.

In his first appearance against the Dodgers while with the San Deigo Padres, he allowed one earned run and gave up five hits, walked four, and struck out three in 5.2 innings on July 3, 2022, at Dodgers Stadium.
