Game storylines and notes

By the end of this trip, Washington will have played 98 games before the All-Star break, the most in franchise (MON/WSH) history and the most since they played 96 games before the 2018 break.

The Nationals will play without a day off before the All-Star break. The Nationals will travel to New York, and then the team will fly to Milwaukee for a weekend series against the Brewers.

Tonight, the Washington Nationals will send LHP Patrick Corbin (1-8; 5.49 ERA) to the mound, and the Mets will send RHP Luis Severino (5-3; 3.83 ERA) to the mound to face the Nationals.

Last time out.

An Ildemaro Vargas home run in the eighth and a Keibert Ruiz home run in the ninth made the game look much closer. .Washington plated five runs in the eighth and ninth innings on Tuesday but eventually fell to the Mets, 7-5.

The lineup allowed Jose Quintana to once again cruise through the game. Yesterday, Quintana threw seven scoreless innings while throwing 103 pitches. In his prior start, also against the Nationals, he threw seven scoreless innings, this time on 95 pitches. Before either of those starts against the Nationals, Quintana had a 4.57 ERA over 82.2 innings. He had recorded an out past the sixth inning twice in 16 starts.

Hey, now, you're an all-star. Get your game on; go play.
